'Skyfall' Hits $1B at Worldwide Box Office

skyfall 007 - Noticieros Garza Limon

"Skyfall," the 23rd James Bond adventure, has surpassed $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
Jeff Blake, chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution for Sony Pictures and Gary Barber, MGM's chairman and chief executive, made the announcement Sunday.
The film, from Albert R. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is the most successful Bond film of all time. It is also the highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office in Sony Pictures history.
"Skyfall," starring Daniel Craig as 007, took in $4.6 million this weekend in North America for a total of $289.6 million. Overseas, the film grossed $10.3 million for an international total to date of $710.6 million and a worldwide total exceeding $1 billion and growing. It has yet to play China, where it will open on Jan. 21.
"Skyfall" is the 14th film in history to hit the $1 billion plateau. The list includes two movies from earlier this year, Warner Bros.' "Dark Knight Rises," which is No. 13 with $1.004 billion, and "Marvel's The Avengers,' which ranks No. 3 all-time with $1.5 billion.
Two James Cameron films, "Avatar" with $2.7 billion, and "Titanic," with $2.1 billion, top the list.
"To see a film connect with audiences is always gratifying but the success of this film is nothing short of extraordinary," Blake said in a statement. "We couldn't be more excited for (producers) Michael Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, (director) Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, and especially the fans who put James Bond in this very rare and very exclusive billion dollar box office club."
"It is truly thrilling to reach this incredible milestone," said MGM's Barber. "With tremendous gratitude to Barbara and Michael, Sam, Daniel and our partner Sony, and to all of the dedicated distributors and fans across the globe, we are so proud of both Skyfall and our 50 year association with James Bond," .

Gov. Sullivan Chime To Return Next Week After Three Months Abroad

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State who has been out of the country for about three months is expected back to Nigeria on Monday December31, THE CITIZEN can authoritatively report.
Contrary to speculations that he travelled to India for the treatment of an undisclosed ailment, THE CITIZEN was informed by a source who has 100 per cent accuracy in matters relating to Enugu State Government that the Governor is indeed in a London hospital where he is being treated for cancer of the nose.
Gov. Chime, who had been out of the country since September 19, 2012, had in a letter to the state’s Assembly said he was travelling abroad on a consolidated annual leave.
The officials of his administration in the state have continued to insist that he was on accumulated annual leave.
They maintained their ground even when the governor had stayed well over two months which he had set out to stay.
However, the secrecy surrounding the reason for his trip and his state of health helped to fuel speculations as some accounts said he was down Kidney ailment, others said, heart problem, while yet another group said he was poisoned.
About a fortnight ago, there were speculations that he had died in an Indian hospital.
The State’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Chuks Ugwuoke, swiftly moved to dispel the rumour.
Already preparations for a welcoming ceremony are high gear in anticipation of his coming back.
An elaborate ceremony, which will include the local government area councils, is planned to receive him.
Attempts by THE CITIZEN to speak to Ugwuoke proved abortive, as he did not respond to calls made to him.

Fashola Vows To Deal With Owner Of Stored Fire Crackers

The governor of Lagos state, Mr Babatunde Fashola has vowed to punish the owner of the store where fire crackers that exploded on Wednesday were stored.
Fireworks stored in the warehouse triggered the explosion in a commercial area of Jankara market and an 11 year old boy was confirmed dead at the site of fire cracker explosion which occurred yesterday at 9AM at Oroyiyin\Jankara axis on Lagos Island.

The explosion and inferno set ablaze 15 other adjoining buildings and injured about 40 people. The explosion gutted buildings, cars and property at the Oroyiyin – Jankara axis on Lagos Island.

The Governor who visited the explosion site described the incident as “unfortunate” while he heaped blames on owners of the store for being reckless business owners.

“In order to make quick business, we have lost a life, we lost property and all of us are in danger” the governor said.

Mr Fashola noted that there must be a lot of soul searching and reflection and choices to be made for people to go on and he called on people to make the choice on safety in all they do while government invests in infrastructure.

Lagos state is one of the states that has banned the use of fire crackers , popularly called bangers during festivities and the governor lamented that “we make rules, we break them.”

“All of these items are under one form of prohibition or the other and we have men and women at our various entry and exit points”.

“How did they get in?, how did they enter?, who shipped them?, who imported them and who cleared them?. Who approved them to come in. Those are very serious issues. We must also ask ourselves, must we do every business?”, he asked rhetorically.

Hookers for Jesus? Meet the prostitute who has helped others turn to Jesus

How can one be a prostitute and then be a “a virgin in Christ?”
Annie Lobert, an ex prostitute has appeared in a new video in which she shares how she became “a virgin in Christ”.
Before turning her life around, Lobert worked on the streets for 16 years. She is now a new woman in Christ and wants to help as many other women find their away to Jesus as possible.
Now 44 years old, Lobert who has survived cancer and drug addiction shares her story which starts with a troubled childhood, growing up in an abusive home. She admits to looking to boys at school to boost her self esteem. She tells a emotional story of getting intimate with a boy who told her he would marry her and then finding out he had told the same story to her best friends and they had all been intimate with him.
After high school graduation, at the tender age of 18, Lobert left home and went to Minneapolis. She says:
”I had to work three jobs to have my own place and buy a car. I thought if I had nice clothes and went to the clubs, maybe I could meet a rich guy that would sweep me off my feet and would take care of me like a prince would. I thought money was the answer to the deep seated, rooted unforgiveness towards my dad, towards that boy in school. I just wanted revenge.”
She describes going into prostitution for the money. One night she says she and a friend sold themselves to some Japanese clients and that is how the prostitution started. Suddenly her $3.47 per hour wage, at her job, paled in comparison to the “$500 per hour with no attachment, no relationship, $1000 per hour, now it was $2000 per hour, it gave me this immense power and if you wanted me for the night it was $10,000.”
Lobert describes being beaten by a man who said he loved her, suffering through cancer and chemotherapy and overdosing on coke before finally realizing that she needed a savior.
”I went completely blind. It’s like the whole room, the light that was on in that room turned dark. And I remember lying there and I felt like this demonic presence just come over me… I knew it was over. And I saw my family, I saw my funeral, and I was in the coffin. And everybody was crying. They were wiping their faces, and they were saying, ‘She was just a prostitute.’
The former prostitute say she remembers calling out saying,
”Jesus, please save me. I do not know if you are real, but I don’t want to die. …And I knew that Jesus heard my prayer. And I laid there and I had this peace come over me,  that was nothing like I had ever felt in my entire life. I knew God gave me a second chance.”
After getting better, Lobert shared that she started reading her bible and reluctantly going to church. She felt reluctant because she was “an ex-prostitute.” In church she found that she was accepted and embraced.
In January 2005, Lobert founded Hooker For Jesus to help victims of  sex trafficking, sexual violence, and exploitation linked to pornography and the sex industry. In June 2009 her and Oz Fox, a guitarist in the heavy metal Christian band Stryper, got married.
Lobert concluded her story in just three lines:
“Little girl lost, thought no one loved her, thought no one wanted her, ran away from her castle. But God met her on that dark road. He said, ‘You can come home now. I am right here and I never left you.’”

Chris Brown Was Paid $1 Million For Lagos Concert

chris-brown-n-wizkid

Popular singer Chris Brown was paid at least $1m (about N156m) to travel down to Lagos with a 15 man crew last week, NET investigations have revealed.
The Grammy-winning singer stopped over in South Africa, for concerts in Cape Town and Jo’burg, before heading down to Lagos for the show.
The Lagos event, built into Brown’s on-going world tour, was organised by Kilimanjaro Events – same company that promoted Rick Ross and Anita Baker in the past.
Financial details were not made public, but we found that Oando boss Wale Tinubu was a major financier, as well as Etisalat, which provided last minute sponsorship.
Brown was to make a brief appearance at the Oando end-of-year gig, but we’re told that did not happen.
It was Brown’s second time in Nigeria, the first being for a THISDAY Music Festival performance a few years ago.
Sources told us the fees ‘could have been more’ if he was required to perform with a live band or if he had to do multiple venues or cities.
Although he performed with a DJ and backing track, with two back-up singers and four dancers, he gave a good account of himself, treating fans to almost two hours of a well-planned set that left guests asking for more.
Chris Brown’s tour will continue early next year with a scheduled performance in Cote D’Ivoire.

Osaze Faces Life Ban From Super Eagles Over Recent Comments

West Bromwich Albion striker Osaze Odemwingie faces being banned from playing for Nigeria for life after his recent outburst during which he criticized the authorities for not inviting him for the impending African Cup of Nations.

Unhappy at being left out of the provisional 32-man squad that will begin camping in Faro this week, Osaze lashed out at head coach Stephen Keshi and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). Osaze had said that Keshi has no footballing reasons not to invite him to camp and criticized the way he found out about being dropped via the media rather than from the coach himself.

One top NFF official responded by saying that Osaze would not be allowed to go unpunished for insulting the NFF, Keshi and Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo. He added that Osaze took matters too far with his outburst on Twitter and as such must pay for his actions.

According to NFF sources, Osaze’s case will now be referred to the federation’s disciplinary committee to investigate and make recommendations to the executive committee for the next line of action. He added: “Who does Osaze think he is that makes him think that he can abuse everybody and go unpunished?

“Well, he may think he does not need us because he also holds a European Union passport but we shall make a statement with the action we will take against him. We are 100 per cent in support of Keshi because we know he picked his team without any ill-feelings.”

Osaze meanwhile has conceded that being dropped from the Nations Cup squad effectively ends his international career. He added that it is just as well he was not invited to the Faro camp, as it is not ideal to play for a coach who does not want him.

“It is clear now that my days with the Super Eagles are over as I expected to be left out of the ANC squad because we have had a few issues before. I played a very good 10 years from 2002 to 2012 but I don’t want to be with a coach who doesn’t want me.

“I still love my country and care about the football but I already wasn’t feeling the way I would have liked to feel. Last month I spoke with Keshi because I didn’t play in a few games with the national team and he said my body language didn’t show that I wanted toplay for the team but body language for the Nigerian coach is that you have to be calling him all the time and greeting him but for me football is an official thing,” Osaze added.

Pointing out that he is no sycophant, Osaze said: “You invite a player and he comes. I don’t have to be like his son, calling every day and asking how are you, sir? I’m not that type of person. They take it as arrogance but my mentality is different.”

Osaze will now channel all his energies towards helping Albion sustain their top-six pushin the Barclays Premier League. He is also expecting his first child any minute from now and not being in camp, he will be able to be present when his wife gives birth

An explosion in a warehouse has sparked a major fire in Lagos, Nigeria's largest city and commercial capital.

Witnesses said fireworks were stored in the warehouse in the busy

market area of Lagos Island, and the blaze quickly spread to other buildings.

The blast reportedly shook windows of homes several miles away and a
thick cloud of smoke could be seen rising over the island.

It was not immediately clear if there were any fatalities.

An Associated Press journalist on site said Nigerian Red Cross workers
had been treating people with light injuries.

Thousands of people in the area gathered to watch, as the fire destroyed
neighbouring buildings.

Local correspondent, in Lagos, says emergency services have had
problems reaching the scene of the fire because of the huge crowds.

"The firecrackers were packed in a shop, and the firecrackers caught fire,"
AFP news agency quoted a National Emergency Management Agency
worker as saying.
